The Appeal of Anklets for Men
Anklets, once seen as solely a feminine accessory, are becoming an increasingly popular addition to men’s jewelry and style. From subtle and delicate to bold and eye-catching, anklets offer men a unique way to accessorize, display personality, and make a fashion statement.
Cultural Significance
In the past, men and women from many different cultures have both worn anklets. They often signify things like status, marital fidelity, and belonging. For example, many Hindu grooms wear a gold anklet during their wedding ceremony. While cultural traditions used to dictate who could wear anklets, their use today transcends gender.
Stylish and Subtle
For men who prefer understated accessories, simple gold, silver, or leather anklets fit the bill. These more subtle anklet styles seamlessly incorporate into outfits without being over the top. Minimalist anklets work well with casual everyday attire like jeans and shorts or at the beach and pool.
Making a Statement
Bold, stand-out anklet styles allow men to express themselves through fashion. Chunky chains, neon colors, elaborate pendants, and hammered metals create an eye-catching focal point. These statement anklets pair well with clothes like joggers, tanks, open shirts, and swim trunks. Guys can play with different textures and materials too.
Combining with Bracelets
Stacking an anklet with a couple of bracelets amps up the look even more. Match metals and designs for a coordinated vibe. Or mix different colors and textures for an eclectic stacked style. Anklets with bracelets draw attention to the legs and highlight the calves and ankles.
Sporty and Active Styles
For guys who like active pursuits, sporty anklet styles work with their aesthetic. Brands like Adidas and Puma offer anklets made for comfort, durability, and performance. Bold logos, silicone, and elastic materials give these athletic anklets visual interest. Wear them when working out, playing sports, hiking, or out in the summer heat.
Layering Anklets
Some men opt to wear multiple anklets at the same time to create a layered look. This amps up the visual interest and allows for mixing different metals, materials, pendants, beads, and more. Both ankles can be layered, or just one to create an asymmetrical style. Add a toe ring for extra flair.
Anklet Placement
Placement is key when sporting anklets. They typically sit right above the ankle bone, resting comfortably in the slight indentation of the leg. But certain anklet styles pop more when worn a little higher up on the calf or lower on the foot. Try different spots and see what looks best.
Cuff vs. Chain Styles
Anklets come in two main styles: cuff and chain. Cuff anklets are solid, sculptural pieces that wrap entirely around the ankle. Chain anklets have a clasp and hang down with movement. Choose a cuff for a snug, seamless fit or chain for airy dangly flair.
Buying Guide
When purchasing anklets, consider metal type, size, closure type, and design. Make sure the metal won’t irritate skin. Measure ankle circumference for ideal fit. Lobster clasps allow size adjusting. Engraving and pendants offer personalization. Shop brands known for quality.
Make It Yours
Anklets let men merge jewelry with individuality. Bold colors, meaningful pendants, and chic materials allow guys to showcase their unique sense of style. Try an anklet as a way to experiment with a new accessory and self-expression.
Anklets are no longer just for the ladies. With numerous styles to choose from, more men are sporting ankle bling these days. Anklets can subtly elevate a casual outfit or make a high-fashion statement. Guys, try out this creative new way to accessorize!

FAQs about Men Wearing Anklets
The good news is that anyone can wear an anklet! At OOAK, we have great anklets for women and fantastic anklets for men too. Luckily, the tips and suggestions we’ve made so far apply to both men and women.
What does an anklet on a man mean? Men have been wearing anklets for just about as long as women have. In Africa and the Middle East, men wore anklets to indicate their social status. Other caste members, be they male or female, would wear silver anklets as a reflection of their lesser status.
An anklet can be worn on either ankle; there are no underlying messages on what it means to wear it on the left versus the right. However, you should never wear your ankle bracelet with pantyhose. It should be worn on bare legs only.
While anklets are becoming increasingly popular, the meaning of wearing one remains the same. Often worn by women in Asian culture to signify that they’re married, or on the left ankle as a talisman or to feature the protection of the evil eye as a charm or bead.
